The Adventures of Captain Vrungel
Приключения капитана Врунгеля
The story "The Adventures of Captain Vrungel" by Andrei Nekrasov (1907-1987) was repeatedly rewritten by the author - his personal circumstances, the political climate in the USSR and the surrounding world changed. In 1939, the story was first published as a separate book. The story about the round-the-world voyage of the yacht "Trouble" was not only witty and action-packed, not only did it incorporate extensive sailor folklore, but also satirically described the political map of the world in the late 1930s - with German Nazis, Spanish Francoists, Mussolini's Falangists and Japanese militarists. The next version of the book appeared in 1958, and now in the vastness of the seas "mischief" (in the words of Christopher Bonifatievich Vrungel) were already Chiang Kai-shek's followers. All these realities and the words that denote them are hardly understandable to today's reader. Therefore, the book (reproducing the author's version of 1958, but with new illustrations by the contemporary artist Kirill Chelushkin) is supplied with an extensive - 150-page - scientific apparatus, explaining (and showing - the comments include photographs, posters, caricatures) how the world around the book was seen by the first readers.
For middle and high school age.
