There are no staged shots in the album “This is Navalny”, so we almost never see Alexei at rest. He is always in the center of the action – and this very accurately reflects what his political career has been like. Here Navalny is sitting behind bars of a detention center for the first time, escaping from the campaign headquarters to meet with voters, energizing supporters at rallies, and listening in despair to his brother’s sentence. He wipes the green paint off his face and walks in the snow to the Central Election Commission in the famous photos that have spread around the world; he hugs his wife Yulia in shots that have never been published before.

Yevgeny Feldman photographed Alexei Navalny for eleven years. He was as close to Navalny as possible and at the same time maintained his independence. Due to this unique view, both interested and objective, Alexei looks extremely real in every photo.
