Aesthetics
Эстетика
This published book is a translation of the English-language version of "Aesthetics" (2007) by Vasily Emilievich Sezeman (1884-1963), which was originally written by the author in Lithuanian. The manuscript of "Aesthetics" was prepared for publication in 1949, but the dramatic circumstances of Vasily Sezeman's life prevented the publication of this Russian thinker's book. The manuscript of "Aesthetics" was long considered lost. The preface describes the almost detective story of its rebirth. Truly, manuscripts don't burn. "Aesthetics" was published posthumously in Lithuanian in 1970 in Vilnius by Mintis Publishing House with a preface by Academician V. Zhirmunsky, a friend of Vasily Sezeman's youth.
Regarding the published works of V.E. Sesemann's book, "Aesthetics," arguably occupies a central place in his work and is the thinker's most comprehensive work. This Russian philosopher explored aesthetics at every stage of his career. The role of aesthetics in Vasily Sesemann's philosophy is also interesting because it serves as a unique bridge between pure (theoretical) philosophy and the cultural sphere, which organically encompasses culture as a whole, in its historical and national diversity, as well as issues of art, science, and education.
This book is addressed to all those interested in the history of Russian philosophy and culture and the theory of aesthetics.
