This translation is based on the revised and expanded 1991 edition, which has undergone several reprints. The book systematically and comprehensively addresses the history and development of psychoanalytic technique, covering the topics of analysis initiation, development, and completion, transference and countertransference, interpretation and reconstruction, insight, the psychoanalytic process, and its vicissitudes: acting out, negative therapeutic reactions, reversible perspective, and impasses in analysis. The book has been translated into many European languages ​​and is used as a basic textbook for candidate training in IPA institutes and study groups.
