Georgy Georgievich Demidov (1908–1987) was a physicist, a student of Landau, a prisoner of the Kolyma camps, and an outstanding Russian writer known for his stories and novellas about the lives of GULAG inmates.
The publishing program of the Gulag History Museum and the Memory Fund, in collaboration with Ivan Limbach Publishing House, and with the participation of the V. I. Dahl Museum of Russian Literature and the "Vozvrashchenie" publishing house, presents the Collected Works of Georgy Demidov in six volumes.
The second volume, "The Orange Lampshade," includes three novellas about the year 1937 (the time of the Great Terror — a period of mass political repression): "Fone Kvas," "The Orange Lampshade," "Two Prosecutors," as well as previously unpublished materials from G. G. Demidov's investigative files.
"The task of Demidov and writers close to him was not only to leave testimonies — he wanted to change literature, which had severed its ties with reality and did not hesitate to serve a misanthropic regime." — Marietta Chudakova.
