Volume 5. Book 2: From Dawn to Dusk. A Novel
Том 5. Книга 2: От рассвета до сумерек. Роман
Georgy Georgievich Demidov (1908—1987) was a physicist, a student of Landau, a prisoner of the Kolyma camps, and a remarkable Russian writer known for his stories and novellas about the lives of GULAG inmates.
In the publishing program of the Museum of GULAG History and the Memory Foundation, in collaboration with Ivan Limbakh Publishing House, and with the participation of the V. I. Dahl Museum of Russian Literature and the "Vozvrashchenie" publishing house, the Collected Works of Georgy Demidov is being released in six volumes.
The fifth volume features the autobiographical novel "From Dawn to Dusk" (Book Two). Unfortunately, it remains unfinished. At the center of the narrative is the family of a worker, Yegor Putintsev, experiencing the events of the Civil War and the NEP period. This is a historical testimony about the life and everyday existence of the residents of the western provinces of Russia during a tragic turning point in history, written from the perspective of the grown-up Dima Putintsev.
The fifth volume also includes previously unpublished materials from the personal file of the exiled Georgy Demidov, who worked at the Ukhta Mechanical Plant from 1954, providing evidence of his inventive activities.
