Eurotrash
Евротрэш
The new book by German-Swiss author Christian Kracht (born 1966), "Eurotrash," is formally a continuation of his debut novel "Faserland" (1995). The setting is modern Switzerland, where the protagonist once again travels, encountering various aspects of the German culture he both loves and hates.
This time, he is not alone—he is accompanied by his elderly mother, who is either mad from age, alcohol, and pills or enlightened and able to see more than ordinary people.
In exploring modernity, Kracht also experiments with genre. "Eurotrash" is a unique autofiction, filled with real, sometimes shocking details from the author's life, as well as equally radical elements of fiction. The novel has been shortlisted for the German and Swiss Book Awards.
