This edition is the first to publish together all the editions of Wassily Kandinsky's treatise "On the Spiritual in Art" (in Russian and German), as well as the artist's texts on the science of art, created in 1914-1921. They are an important, but hitherto missing link between the Munich period of his work and the Bauhaus period. The publication is based on extensive archival material, supplied with a large textual apparatus and detailed commentary, where Kandinsky's dialogue with the artistic tradition - Delacroix, Signac, Böcklin, Leonardo da Vinci - is systematically reconstructed. Separate chapters are devoted to the history of the writing, publication and translation of the treatise. The process of creating woodcuts, schematic Tables and Illustrative Appendix is ​​examined in detail.
