The publication, addressed to both specialists and a wide range of readers, is based on the exhibition "Meer Eisenstadt. Towards the Theme of the Synthesis of the 1930s", which took place in 2019 at the gallery "Na Shabolovke" (curator - Alexandra Selivanova), and includes articles by Alexandra Selivanova, Nadezhda Plungyan and Alexandra Shatskikh, as well as memoirs of the sculptor's contemporaries and an interview with the artist Zhenya Rzheznikova about how Eisenstadt's method relates to contemporary art.
Most of the materials are published for the first time: the authors-compilers introduce into scientific circulation a large corpus of previously unknown sculptural works, as well as the sculptor's drawings, which are presented as one of the foundations of his artistic method. Reflecting on the evolution of Eisenstadt's style from the 1920s to the 1950s, the publication illuminates the master's legacy as a holistic and significant element in the history of Soviet art in the first half of the 20th century.
The book is the first part of the series "Laboratory for the Study of Soviet Art at the Avant-Garde Center (LISI_CA)", launched by the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art. The series aims to collect and present the results of more than a decade of work by the Center. Each book is dedicated to one of the exhibitions and includes a body of scientific articles, historical texts and archival documents, works of art, as well as photographs of the exhibition.
