The book by journalist Irina Novik is a collection of real stories of people who refused to participate in the Russian-Ukrainian war. These people, citizens of the Russian Federation, different in age, origin and views, due to circumstances found themselves in the war or were one step away from it. But then, guided by certain - and also not always the same - considerations, they decided to flee. They refused to increase violence, saving their own lives and choosing freedom - or, at least, hope for it. Through the memories and direct speech of deserters, for whom you sometimes feel sympathy, and sometimes - hostility, the absurdity, cruelty and absolute senselessness of the war unleashed by the Kremlin are traced.

"I am a deserter" is a deep and very important study of human actions and decisions against the backdrop of tragic events of our time.
