Both the title and the images of Linor Goralik's new collection connect it to her recently published novel, "All That Can Breathe." In that novel, Israelis who have survived a military catastrophe are confronted with another circumstance: animals, from domestic cats to giraffes at the zoo, begin to speak. Throughout the novel, Goralik tests the limits of human empathy, revealing (unsurprisingly) that in the bitterness of defeat, in burnout, and in extreme situations, empathy is drastically lacking.
