A collection of plays by the Austrian playwright Thomas Bernhard (1931–1989). Bernhard builds his theater upon the ruins of theatrical convention inherited from Ionesco, Beckett, Genet, and Artaud—figures whose analytical work rendered "normal" plot-driven and stage action impossible. This new edition includes the comedy *The Famous* (1976) and features a foreword and notes by the translator, Mikhail Rudnitsky.
