Felix killed Lara
Феликс убил Лару
Dmitry Lipskerov's novel "Felix Killed Lara" is a new work written in the genre of grotesque dystopia. Although the title may suggest a detective story, the book does not belong to that genre. In this vein, the Bible could have been titled "Cain Killed Abel." But, of course, everything is much more complex and not so straightforward. In his work, the author explores complex and multilayered themes, immersing the reader in an atmosphere of war and absurdity. The novel is set against the backdrop of military events, and was written in Berlin after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The novel's main theme is the destruction of the familiar world and the search for love and meaning in chaos. The grotesque nature of the narrative emphasizes the absurdity of the events, as well as the protagonist's search for understanding and light in dark times.
Dmitry Lipskerov's magnificent new novel defies traditional annotations. Jokingly, its content is described by an old student joke:
"Everything's bullshit except bees," said the professor. Then he thought for a moment and added: "Well, bees are bullshit too..."
Lipskerov composed his dystopia during the war, after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The novel is full of war and the grotesque. Its hidden motive is that reading, the very moment of immersion in the novel, is also the book's hero. Today, the grotesque still hangs like a leaden cloud over the reader's reality. But tomorrow, the sky could fall, and the two will become indistinguishable.
