“A poem is a sudden inspiration that you have to do something with, otherwise it will be bad. A detective story where I have to find the killer - the ideal form. A mathematical problem for the irrational. I have been writing poems for as long as I can remember. I wrote them to schoolchildren, trying to somehow reveal in my first Belarusian words the industrial landscapes of the Minsk outskirts, the gray entrances and all the crampedness of the then existence. I wrote them in the 90s, when, together with my avant-garde friends, I dreamed of a revolution in literature and loved to scold old retrogrades. I wrote them when I was working on my novels - I used poems in “Dogs of Europe”, cut them into “White Fly” and gave them to “Children of Alindarka”. In 2020-21, poetry helped me express what hurt and burned. Horror, resistance, hope. This book collects poems from different years for the first time - about myself and about my own. For everyone and, as befits poems, for no one."
