Georgy Georgievich Demidov (1908—1987) was a physicist, a student of Landau, a prisoner of the Kolyma camps, and an outstanding Russian writer known for his stories and novellas about the lives of GULAG prisoners.

In the 1980s, his manuscript archive was seized by KGB officers. Thanks to the persistence of Valentina Georgievna Demidova, the writer's daughter, the archive was recovered after his death in the early 1990s. With great effort, several camp stories were published. However, it was only on the centenary of Demidov's birth that the publishing house "Vozvrashchenie" released four of his books (a collection of stories and an autobiographical novel).

As part of the publishing program of the Museum of GULAG History and the Memory Foundation, in collaboration with Ivan Limbakh Publishing House, and with the participation of the Museum of Russian Literature History named after V.I. Dahl and the "Vozvrashchenie" publishing house, a six-volume Collection of Works by Georgy Demidov is being released.

In the first and second volumes, we have included previously unpublished materials from the investigative files of G. G. Demidov.
