The Second World War (in three volumes)
Вторая мировая война (в трёх книгах)
Winston Churchill's six-volume work is a heroic epic of nations rising up against a planetary threat, written by an outstanding politician, meticulous historian, and talented writer.
This is a chronicle of the day-to-day leadership of a statesman whose contribution to the overall victory of the anti-Hitler coalition is unquestionable. It is a reflection on the past, intended to serve as a lesson for posterity.
The first book publishes an abridged translation from English of the first and second volumes of his memoirs, describing the events from 1919 to December 1940 that led to what the author calls an unnecessary and avoidable war.
The second book publishes the third and fourth volumes of the memoirs and describes events from January 1941 to June 1943: the invasion of the Soviet Union by Nazi Germany, the attack by militarist Japan on the United States, the creation of the anti-Hitler coalition, and the Allies' transition from defense to offense.
The third book publishes the fifth and sixth volumes of the memoirs and describes events from June 1943 to July 1945: the surrender of Germany's allies, the Tehran, Yalta, and Potsdam conferences, the landing of American, British, and Canadian troops in Normandy, the defeat of Nazi forces as a result of historic victories by the Soviet Army and its allies, and the capitulation of Germany.
