What I dislike most in life is picking up the phone and being asked to speak to someone, and you have to answer: he died or she died (because he died). And sometimes you start crying, and sometimes the people on the other end start crying too (that's the reaction death evokes). Once I got a call from the tax office, and there was no room for crying there anymore, and they were so dry (though a hint of surprise crept into their voice), and I was a good girl, I said it and didn't cry, but I hung up angrily – as if it were their fault.
