Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu (born 1946 in Kreva) is an undisputed classic of contemporary Belarusian literature, whose works have been translated into dozens of languages worldwide. His poetry is characterized by a powerful evocative quality and an extraordinary elasticity of the line; it clearly reveals a deep, intrinsic bond between the lyrical persona and the past, present, and future of his native land—and, indeed, the entire world.
