On Greed and Related Matters: Theme and Variations
О скупости и связанных с ней вещах: тема и вариации
Avarice has been considered one of the main sins since time immemorial. At the same time, it has always possessed something dangerously close to the very nature of human desire, an inner capacity for its perversion. Should one preserve and accumulate for oneself alone or share with others? This choice lies at the foundation of any society.
The author offers a psychoanalytic perspective on the issue, exploring the cultural history of the miser's image and analyzing the development of avarice against the backdrop of the rise and flourishing of capitalism.
