Faustus and other texts
Фаустус и другие тексты
One of the most striking and original artists of the 20th century, the visionary and reclusive Bernard Réquichot (1929-1961) managed to create and test a number of innovative painting techniques during his short life, for which critics had to invent special terms: reliquaries, paper selections, graphic traces, etc. In his literary endeavors, he no less insightfully anticipated emerging trends and movements—such as asemic writing, sonorous poetry, and the principles of repetitive music. This edition includes Réquichot's poetry and prose texts, including the unfinished fragmentary novel "Faustus"—a kind of multifaceted self-portrait of the artist, occupying a special place in his legacy. The book also includes key articles on Réquichot by Alain Jouffroy and Roland Barthes. Translator and publisher: Viktor Lapitsky, winner of the Andrei Bely and Maurice Vaksmacher prizes.
