Leon Briedis (1949–2020) was a Latvian poet, novelist, essayist, literary critic, and publisher, as well as a translator of prose and poetry from Latin, Russian, English, and Romance languages (Romanian, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Catalan), Albanian, and others.

He translated ten plays that were staged in the major theaters of Latvia. One of his scripts was adapted into a short film. L. Briedis wrote numerous works for children (poetry, prose, plays) and song lyrics, collaborating with composer Raimonds Pauls.
