There is no loneliness, wait
Одиночества нет, ждите
"There is no loneliness, just wait" is a constellation novel about motherhood, childhood, adolescence, patriarchy, and the impossibility of solitude. In sketches of late-Soviet and post-Soviet life, the self-proclaimed heroine reflects on the forced emancipation of women from working-class families fleeing their villages for Moscow. Like her friends, Katya's mother is unaware of the pressures of patriarchy and makes no effort to resist it. She doesn't dream of education or a career, but rather wants to escape poverty and overcrowding, to create a new, prosperous family based on familiar patterns. This incomplete separation becomes the shared destiny of mother and daughter: the former constantly returns to the village to her parents and the forest, while the latter is continually cast back by circumstances to a place where there is no longer a place for her. Reflecting on the desire and impossibility of disconnecting from people and ideas that drag one down, the auto-heroine realizes herself as a restless fruit, having rolled far from the tree professionally, and personally, stuck among her maternal roots.
