Female Film Directors in the Modern World
Кинорежиссерки в современном мире
In recent decades, the situation with gender inequality in the global film industry has changed significantly: women are increasingly mastering various film professions, achieving great success, including in the field of directors. The focus of critics and researchers is mainly on women's cinema in Europe and America, although similar gender shifts can be observed in Russia. The book by film scholar Anzhelika Artyukh is the first work on contemporary Russian film directors. In it, she summarizes her "field research", analyzing her impressions of Russian women's cinema, talking to its creators and showing the difficulties they have to face. At the same time, the author does not ignore the foreign film process either. The heroines of this book are Kathryn Bigelow, Sofia Coppola, Renata Litvinova, Valeria Gai Germanika, Oksana Bychkova, Anna Melikyan, Natalia Meshchaninova and other talented women creating films here and now. Anzhelika Artyukh is a Doctor of Art History, Professor of the Department of Drama and Film Studies at the St. Petersburg State University of Film and Television, a member of the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI), curator of the Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF), and laureate of the Russian Guild of Film Critics Award.
