Anthology of Contemporary Swiss Drama (in two volumes)
Антология современной швейцарской драматургии (в двух томах)
The anthology features contemporary Swiss authors writing in German, French, Italian, and Romansh, as well as dialects. The plays' themes, equally relevant in Russia and Switzerland, are extremely diverse: from the ups and downs of youth football ("Hit and Run") to the global economic crisis ("The End of Money") and eternal questions of faith and trust ("Bus"). The genres also range from documentary theater ("Neophobia") to plays set in virtual space ("Yoko-ni").
The second volume of this anthology of contemporary Swiss drama includes plays selected by five directors and theater professionals well-versed in Western European and Russian theater trends (E. Gremina, A. Merz-Raikov, N. Parkhomovskaya, E. Peregudov, and A. Potapova). As in the first volume, this collection features renowned and emerging authors writing in the three main languages of the Confederation: German, French, and Italian. Duty to society (Dominic Busch's "The Vow"), gender discrimination (Lukas Bärfuss's "Frau Schmitz"), immigration and xenophobia (Gerhard Meister's "Amerika" and Dmitry Gavrish's "The Wasteland")—this is just a small list of the global social issues addressed in the plays in the anthology. But there are also plays with specifically Swiss themes (Gabriel Vetter's "Park" and Antoine Jaccoud's "Room for Friends"), a play about life in the snowy Alps (Ferruccio Cainero's "The Year of the Avalanche," based on Giovanni Orelli's novel of the same name), and even a poetic declaration of love to a great tennis player (Denis Maillefer's "In Love with Federer").
