Anthology of contemporary Slovak drama
Антология современной словацкой драматургии
The anthology presents dramatic works that have stood the test of the stage. With the exception of two plays (by O. Zahradník and I. Bukovčan), which have already become national and world classics, and two dramatizations of famous authors (by L. Ballek and V. Šikula), edited by O. Šulai, these plays are contemporary. They vary in style: some are written in line with biblical traditions, others can serve as examples of avant-garde experiments, and still others are quite traditional. They were written between the late 1990s and 2000s. All the plays (except O. Zahradník) have been translated into Russian for the first time. The book provides an overview of the current state of Slovak drama and theater, as well as life in Slovakia today, where, following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993, changes have occurred not only in the political, economic, and cultural spheres, but also in lifestyle and relationships between people.
