Central Left Bank
Центральне Лівобережжя
The book “Unknown Peripheries of Kyiv. Central Left Bank” covers the space between Brovarskyi Avenue and the railway, as well as the territory bounded by the arc of the northern branch of the railway. Historical maps and space images, as well as rare archival photographs, many of which are being published for the first time, were used in the work on the book. Special attention is paid to the process of forming modern development, residential area projects and master plans are analyzed. Most of the typical projects of residential buildings and schools are identified in mass development. The book will be interesting to architects, historians, Kyiv scholars and Kyivophiles, left-bank and right-bank residents of the capital, as well as everyone who is interested in the topic.
The series “Unknown Peripheries of Kyiv” tells the story of the development of the former Kyiv suburbs, which have long been perceived as organic parts of the city. New highways and workers' houses, ensembles of settlements and the first Kyiv massifs, schools and palaces of culture, lost buildings and unrealized plans. All this concerned not only the central part of the city, but also the lesser-known city peripheries.
