The List: Essays
Перечень: Эссе
The collection "List" brings together essays by Shamshad Abdullaev from the past two decades on literature, cinema, and painting. Reflecting on the poetry of Samuel Beckett and Paul Celan, the cinema of Alain Resnais and Atom Egoyan, and the figures of Alexander Goldstein and Vasily Kondratyev, Abdullaev develops a reading approach he calls "the linguistic adventure of solitary imagination."
His texts are not so much essays in the traditional sense, but rather passionate lyrical monologues that convey, through their very structure, a unique experience of involvement and a passionate co-existence with the infinity of world culture. From Antiquity to the Arab East, from Sufis to Italian hermetics.
Shamshad Abdullaev (b. 1957) is a poet, prose writer, and the informal leader of the Fergana poetic school, which emerged at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s in Uzbekistan. He is the recipient of the "Volga/NOS" award for his collection of stories "Another South" (Nosorog Publishing, 2020).
