Balabanov’s St. Petersburg: A Guidebook
Петербург Балабанова. Путеводитель
The book *Balabanov’s St. Petersburg* is a guide to the filming locations of cult movies by one of Russia’s foremost directors, Aleksei Balabanov. It offers a unique portrait of the Northern Capital, created by photographer Dmitry Sirotkin and *Seans* magazine contributors Andrey Kartashov and Pyotr Leznikov.
The guide covers the locations where films such as *Happy Days*, *The Castle*, *Trofim*, *Brother*, *Of Freaks and Men*, *War*, *It Doesn't Hurt Me*, *Cargo 200*, *A Stoker*, and *Me Too* were shot. It explores how the city appeared on screen and the significance of the urban landscape to the director. It highlights specific thematic locations and visual motifs—such as the railway station, the waterfront, the market, the bathhouse, the street and alleyway, the entrance hall and staircase, and others.
The book comes with a map that allows readers to walk in the footsteps of Balabanov’s characters.
