This book has four anonymous authors. But there are many more—volunteers living in Russia who have evacuated and continue to evacuate Ukrainian civilians from the bombings. Throughout the years of war, they have been active: they meet them at checkpoints between Russia and Ukraine, bring them to safe, warm apartments where they can breathe a sigh of relief, provide them with suitcases, food, and clothing, and then see them off at the borders, where refugees begin their journey to Europe. And they also listen. Often, they become the first listeners for those who have experienced horror. Yes, it is dangerous. Volunteers risk their lives and freedom. But they cannot do otherwise. This book is not written to horrify us, the readers, or to rub salt in wounds. It is needed to find out how things really are.
