Katrina Zile's novel "Beloved Bones" is the life story of a woman who keeps the bones of two men in a furniture section at home. In the atmospheric, magically realistic work, the everyday life of Vilnius's sleeping areas and Lithuanian folklore are intertwined. The time of the novel is indefinite, conditional. Life here is met and spent in the bathhouse of an apartment building, shepherds go to pasture on trolleybuses, animals are kept in apartments, bread is baked on the landing, near mailboxes; rituals are held in the house, miracles occur. The style of the story resembles a ritual shroud, in which key events, feelings, memories, glimpses of black humor and coarse language are wrapped, and the themes of relationships, loyalty, prejudice and humanity are explored.
