Contemporary Polish poets
Современные польские поэты
The current face of Polish poetry has been largely shaped by the social changes that took place in Poland after 1989, when Solidarity won the first free elections and the country underwent what was essentially a bloodless revolution, ending the communist regime. A revolution also occurred in Polish poetry. People entered literature who declared a radical break with the past. As Adam Pomorski, a distinguished scholar of Polish and Russian literature, wrote, "The Russian reader, accustomed to his liberal or dissident sixties, will be surprised in these poems by the absence of the rhetoric of a just cause, the individuality of experience and skeptical thought, and, finally, the tone of personal dignity that is not drowned out by the chorus of voices."
The book brings together poets from different generations, whose poems have been translated by the best translators of Polish poetry.
The anthology includes 24 authors: Justyna Bargielska, Wojciech Bonowicz, Martyna Buliżanska, Jacek Gutorow, Jacek Dehnel, Bohdan Zadura, Ryszard Krynicki, Joanna Müller, Bronka Nowicka, Marta Podgórnik, Jacek Podsiadło, Marcin Sendecki, Szymon Słomczyński, Dariusz Sośnicki, Andrzej Sosnowski, Dariusz Suska, Eugeniusz Tkaczyszyn-Dycki, Julia Fedorczuk, Darek Fox, Roman Honet, Julia Szychowiak, Sławomir Elsner, Krzysztof Jaworski, Jerzy Jarniewicz.
