The most tsimus: tastes and aromas of Belarusian-Jewish cuisine
Самы цымус: Смакі і водары беларуска-яўрэйскай кухні
About tsimus himself.
15 essays and several dozen original recipes from the wonderful connoisseur of historical cuisine Ales Bely. Author's illustrations by Yuri Taubkin.
A lot of books about Jewish cuisine have been written and published in the world. They are very different – serious, funny, light, thorough, bizarre, tragic... and there are very few books about the history of Belarusian cuisine. And here is a new book, an unusual one. About Jewish and Belarusian cuisine at the same time. And even more: about the cuisine of three historical characters who until then lived on the same land:
a peasant,
a pan,
a small-town artisan and a merchant.
How is this possible?
But both the master, the Jew, and the peasant – having different consciousness and different traditions – ate the same Krupnik. Or a potato babka. Or the gut. Although they were cooked a little differently, and ate for different reasons. This book is about the iconic joint dishes of three cultures.
