Moscow: Soviet Modernist Architecture 1955-1991

Москва: архитектура советского модернизма 1955-1991

The book describes about 100 objects from the most underrated era of Soviet architecture. This is the first guide to Moscow that examines the architecture of the thirty years from Khrushchev to Gorbachev as a whole — from the naive modernism of the Thaw to postmodernism, including the Palace of Pioneers, the Ostankino TV Tower, the Rossiya Cinema, the TASS building, the “golden brains” of the Academy of Sciences, as well as lesser-known projects, such as the “House of New Life” or the AZLK Museum. The authors of the book, Anna Bronovitskaya and Nikolai Malinin, offer to see these controversial structures in a broad historical, cultural and political context, as well as against the backdrop of world architecture of the second half of the 20th century. The objects for the book were photographed by Yuri Palmin.
