Anthology of contemporary Polish drama
Антология современной польской драматургии
"Brilliant..." "The pure truth..." "The only thing that bothers me is how they know so much about me?" write Russian viewers after watching "Day of the Wacko," a film adaptation of the play by Polish playwright and director Marek Koterski. A similar experience—recognizing oneself in the mirror of another culture—will be experienced by readers of this anthology. The identity crisis and marginalization of people who have not found their place in the post-communist world, the fear of the future and the ghosts of the past, intolerance of the Other and the inability to understand one's neighbor—all of this is addressed by both Russian and Polish authors. At the same time, the artistic language used to comprehend the new reality in Polish drama differs significantly from that of Russian theatrical practice, which is perhaps why Polish plays are so in demand on the Russian stage today. This book is the third anthology of contemporary Polish drama to be published by NLO. Along with new texts by well-known Russian authors (Dorota Maslowska, Tadeusz Slobodzianek and others), it presents the work of playwrights who have not yet been translated into Russian, who with no less passion seek answers to the most pressing questions of our time.
