The book presents a detailed art-historical analysis of a whole spectrum of types of "new woman" constructed by the Soviet authorities in the 1920s and 1930s. The author shows how closely propaganda and agitation tasks were intertwined with social changes and innovation in art, and also suggests looking at the early Soviet gender reform as the basis for the diversity of artistic solutions that emerged.
