The translation of the New Testament with brief comments, made by the famous Russian biblical scholar Andrei Desnitsky, on the one hand, maintains continuity with tradition (especially in terminology), and on the other hand, seeks to convey in modern Russian the dynamism, rhetorical richness and stylistic diversity of the original.

Its main principle is not to copy Greek syntax, but to find in modern Russian constructions suitable for conveying the thought and style of the original. This is especially noticeable for the Epistles, which make up 21 of the 27 books of the New Testament.

Here are the principles that I tried to follow while working on this translation:
• maintain continuity with tradition, without copying the shortcomings of the Synodal translation;
• preserve traditional terminology whenever possible;
• correspond to the modern level of science (both biblical and translation studies);
• be understandable to a modern reader without a special education, and at the same time avoid unnecessary simplifications, anachronisms and vulgarity;
• convey, if possible, the dynamism and rhetorical richness of the original, without copying its syntactic structure;
• add brief comments in cases where the translation text is insufficient for a complete understanding of the text by an unprepared reader.
