Pina Bausch. Unveiling Bodily Presence
Пина Бауш. Обнажение телесного присутствия
*Pina Bausch: Unveiling Bodily Presence* is the fifth volume in the GARAGE DANCE series, which is dedicated to contemporary dance.
Pina Bausch (1940–2009) was a German dancer and choreographer who pioneered a new form of "expressionist dance" known as *Tanztheater* (dance-theatre).
"I am not so interested in how people move as I am in what moves them," Bausch once said—a statement that captures the very essence of her method. Her approach—which demanded that dancers bring their "bodily presence"—at once real and absolute—to the stage—was truly groundbreaking. Like all significant artistic contributions, it transcended the boundaries of its creator’s own work; Bausch’s influence on the history of contemporary dance remains palpable across the globe to this day.
The book is authored by Royd Climenhaga, a dance and theatre scholar, co-founder and co-artistic director of the arts space Human Company, and a faculty member at The New School.
