The last book of Mrs. A.
Апошняя кніга пана А
“I envy children. They are allowed to believe in fairy tales, but we are not. Adults love fairy tales more than anything else in the world, but people are ashamed to admit it,” says the hero of a new book by the famous Belarusian writer Algerd Bakharevich. To pay off his debt to the creditor, the writer-debtor writes fairy tales — and for a whole month reads them to shameless adults every evening. With each passing day, the narrator’s fairy-tale world becomes more and more real, and the reality in which the action takes place begins to turn more and more into a fairy tale — so that in the end the line between fantasy and reality is finally blurred.
In “The Last Book of Mr. A.”, Bakharevich once again opens the door to his artistic world: so deceptively familiar to us from the surrounding everyday life and so wonderfully unreal, disturbing, magical and scary.
The first edition of the novel was published in June 2020 and became a real bestseller within a few months.
