Nagori. Longing for the Passing Season
Нагори. Тоска по уходящему сезону
Ryoko Sekiguchi is a Japanese writer living in France, the author of two dozen books of poetry, prose, and essays written in Japanese and French. Her favorite theme can be described as the languages of emotions — seemingly universal and requiring no translation, common to all people regardless of their nationality and place of residence. However, these languages are also unique to each individual and often inexpressible in words. Among such languages are tastes, scents, and experiences.
"Nagori" is the Japanese term for the end of a season, everything late, lingering, and transitioning from reality into memories. By outlining the vague contours of this concept, which is important for the Japanese approach to food, poetry (haiku), and time, the author draws us into an enticing twilight limbo — a borderline space between humans and nature, personal experience and the flow of history, life and death.
