On Kings
О королях
"On Kings" (2017) is a dialogue between two masters of contemporary anthropology regarding the nature of monarchical power. While Graeber and Sahlins do not claim to present a comprehensive, unified theory, they offer the reader a nuanced—and at times witty—analysis of "traditional" forms of kingship and its most prevalent archetypal manifestations. The authors base their arguments on an impressive body of ethnographic evidence, drawing on research into Amerindian and African societies—ranging from the monarchies of Africa and Asia to the peoples of Papua New Guinea and the Americas. The volume is illustrated with diagrams, maps, and an engraving.
