Essays on Parajanov
Очерки о Параджанове
A reissue of one of the definitive books on the director and artist Sergei Parajanov. Originally published in Armenia in 1998, this work by film scholar Karen Kalantar immediately became a bibliographical rarity.
Through ten essays, Karen Kalantar examines various episodes in Parajanov’s life, aligning them with his filmography. As the author notes, "The protagonist of Parajanov’s films is the director himself." The narrative centers on the seventh essay, which focuses on *The Color of Pomegranates* (as well as the concept behind *Kyiv Frescoes*). The final, tenth essay explores the fate of his unrealized screenplays—*Confession*, *Ara the Beautiful*, *David of Sassoun*, and *Intermezzo*.
