All formulas of the world

Все формулы мира. Как математика объясняет законы природы

Galileo Galilei once said, "The book of nature is written in the language of mathematics." Nearly four centuries later, we continue to be amazed at how mathematical methods are so well suited to describing our world. Even more astonishing are the discoveries in the natural sciences made through the mathematical analysis of equations.

The creation of any complex structure—from an ingenious road junction to a quantum computer—requires mathematical calculations. To fully understand the effects of gravity or quantum phenomena, we also need mathematics. But it seems so complex and confusing!

From a physicist's perspective, mathematics appears as a set of well-organized and reliable, interconnected methods that allow us to explore the relationships between physical parameters and quantities.

How can we overcome our fear of formulas and embrace mathematics? Why is it so effective in the natural sciences? Is there a limit to this, or, conversely, will a deeper understanding of nature require the creation of mathematical constructs that are beyond our comprehension?

All these questions are addressed in the book, and their artistic interpretation is presented in a series of drawings by artist Rostan Tavasiev. Many of them cannot be answered definitively. But we continue to discuss them and try to understand how this world works. To do this, we will need to overcome the division into "two cultures": "humanities" and "science." Let's take another step in this direction.
