The House with the Lighthouse. About a World Where Everyone Matters

Дом с маяком. О мире, в котором каждый важен

A society can be judged by its treatment of the weak, by whether it openly discusses death and helps those who cannot be cured. This book tells the story of invisible people, those whom we are accustomed to ignoring and whose fate we fear to contemplate. It also tells of the people who help them live — and die.

Its main protagonist is Lida Moniava, the founder of the charitable foundation "House with a Lighthouse." Based on thorough documentary research by a journalist from the portal "Takie Dela," the book is dedicated to the development of Russian philanthropy from the early 1990s to the present day. It is a deeply personal story of one person's relentless struggle for civil society, a fight against prejudices and fears that hinder the development of palliative care and an accessible environment for people with disabilities.

You will hear many different voices discussing why it is important to remember death while living and will believe in the dream of a world where everyone is equally important.

The publisher thanks the charitable foundation "House with a Lighthouse" for its informational partnership and the Peredelkino House of Creativity for providing a residency to the author.
