The title of the book speaks for itself. Before you is an encyclopedia of the development of independent rock journalism in the territory of the Soviet Union, the CIS and Russia. It sheds light on the times when rock music was the domain of scattered groups of enthusiasts scattered across the CIS. On the years when interest in rock music could put a person outside the law and set conservative Soviet and post-Soviet society against him.

The book has two sections. The first section is the "Encyclopedia", it tells about all samizdat creations from 1967 to 1994. The second section is the "Anthology", where the most notable articles of samizdat creations are presented without cuts.
