This book by art historian, critic, and curator RoseLee Goldberg represents the most comprehensive study of performance and its key figures: Maurizio Cattelan, Paul McCarthy, Tanya Bruguera, Matthew Barney, Patty Chang, and many others. First published in 1979, at a time when performance was being recognized as an independent medium of artistic expression, it has gone through three editions, each time updated with relevant information. The book has been translated into eight languages; the first Russian edition was timed to coincide with the international conference "Performance: Ethics in Action," which took place at Garage in 2013. Goldberg has written a section on contemporary Russian performance specifically for Russian readers.
