Dragon skeleton
Скелет дракона
Mikhail Sokolovsky is a screenwriter, playwright, and author, winner of numerous awards and prizes. He left Russia in March 2022. The collection "Dragon Skeleton" is the author's first book published outside the country.
The protagonist of "Dragon Skeleton" recalls how, as a child, he was walking near his native village and hid from the rain in a cave. There, deep within, he stumbled upon the fossilized skeleton of a gigantic dragon, with an enormous head and tiny forepaws, embedded in the wall. Thus, the young Leonardo da Vinci began to ponder nature—its origins, development, and movement—and set out to achieve his ultimate and unattainable dream: understanding the world. Just as dinosaur skeletons in museums are composed of fragments, shards, fossils, and reconstructions, so this book is composed of texts from different periods, genres, and themes, united only by the author. The novel "The Glutton's Testament," written over ten years ago, is set in Northern Tonga, a fictional country somewhere in central Europe. The comedy "Srach" is also set there, but in 2024. The satirical novella "House of Prayer" is set in Moscow in 2012. The times were still "vegetarian," but Pussy Riot had already earned their "two-star rating." "The Dragon's Skeleton" is a historical play that concludes the collection.
