"Vika T.’s Notebook" is a collection of short stories about a girl named Vika, her grandmother, her parents, their cat Timofey, their dog Groza, and others. Each story is a humorous vignette from contemporary life, centered around a specific traditional proverb or saying.
What does Russian folklore have to do with it? Well, Vika and her grandmother, Varvara, have taken it upon themselves to collect Russian proverbs and sayings for every possible situation—a surprisingly useful endeavor! After all, some people collect antique paintings, stamps, or coins; why shouldn’t others collect proverbs and sayings? As the saying goes, you can’t buy proverbs at the market, yet everyone needs them! Why? Because they express our thoughts with such precision and wit, helping to capture the essence of an idea while enriching and embellishing our language.
Unfortunately, many traditional proverbs and sayings are gradually being forgotten, fading away and disappearing from our lives entirely. And surely, a treasure like this is something worth gathering and preserving!
