The book includes 25 folk tales and legends of the Vietnamese (Kinh people) translated by Russian orientalists. The prologue examines the history of the study of Vietnamese tales in Russia and Vietnam, the problem of classifying genres of Vietnamese folklore, the specifics of the most widespread and stable fairy-tale motifs and plot schemes. The texts of the tales are accompanied by a structural, cultural and historical analysis of plots, motifs, heroes and realities. The book is richly illustrated with popular prints of Dong Ho.
The publication is addressed to both specialists in the history, culture and folklore of Vietnam, and a wide range of readers.
