In this book, French philosopher and sociologist Bruno Latour develops an original project of "experimental metaphysics." Its primary goal is to formulate a new concept of political ecology capable of reconciling scientific practices with democratic decision-making processes—an endeavor that necessitates a simultaneous rethinking of three concepts fundamental to Western philosophy: *logos*, *physis*, and *polis*. Drawing on research in the sociology of science, comparative anthropology, and political philosophy—as well as a radically new interpretation of the practices of environmental movements—Latour proposes a program for constructing a "common world" in which non-human actors participate on an equal footing with humans.
