Researcher Svetlana Yeremeyeva's book presents an analysis of the representations of military funerals in 2022 within the public sphere. The author aimed to uncover not so much how military personnel are buried today, but what these funerals mean for their loved ones, for society, and for the state as a whole.

By defining the contours of the life worlds behind the farewells to the fallen, the author demonstrates the inadequacy of the rhetoric about "brotherly" peoples with nearly identical cultures. The study of the life worlds in Russia and Ukraine reveals how different these countries have become in their sociocultural parameters. Additionally, it tracks the processes that have intensified these differences over the past 20 years.

The examination of the social functioning of grief, mourning, and bereavement aligns with contemporary trends in humanitarian thought, which are scarcely or not at all represented in the Russian-speaking tradition. The issues of human loss, death, and mourning have become integral parts of humanitarian theories related to reflections on human dignity and the principles of coexistence with others.
